Hello, everyone!
This is a reminder that assignments for Equivalent Exchange 2020 are due September 26, 11:59 UTC. Please keep in mind that this may be earlier in your time zone! A countdown timer is available for reference here.

• Extensions up to 48 hours may be given at moderator discretion.
• To post your assignment, go to the AO3 collection and choose “My Assignment” from the menu on the left. Then, in the upper right-hand side of the screen, click the “Fulfill” button, which will link you to a screen where you can post your fic or art as normal.
• A mod will be checking your work at a random time after the due date, so make sure that whatever you upload is complete and presentable.
• Gifts will be revealed on October 3. Creator identities will be revealed on October 10, one week later. Until then, do NOT contact your recipient for ANY reason -- this will ruin their surprise, and destroys a lot of the fun of this event. If you have questions about your assignment and want to ask something of your recipient, email the mods at equivalentexchangemod@gmail.com and we will act as an intermediary.

Remember that treats are welcome in this exchange! A treat is an extra gift that you create for someone who may not have been assigned to you. An overview post about treats is available here! Some brief reminders:

• You may create a treat even if you are not signed up for this round of the exchange! (You can also create extra treats for the person who was assigned to you after you finish their main gift!)
• To post a treat, click the "Post to Collection" button at the top right on the AO3 collection page. Post the gift as you would normally, making sure you put the username of the person you're treating in the "Gift this work to" box.

Assignment Due Date

Hello everyone!

Assignments for Equivalent Exchange 2019 are due Thursday, September 26 at 11:59 PM UTC. This may be earlier than midnight in your time zone, so please reference the countdown timer here!

  • Extensions up to 48 hours may be given at the mod’s discretion.

As we draw closer to the assignment due date, especially for those of you who are not signed up this round, remember that treats are also welcome in this exchange! 

  • A treat is an extra gift that you create for someone who may not have been assigned to you. (You can also create extra treats for the person who was assigned to you after you finish their main gift!)
  • You are allowed to write or draw treats even if you are not signed up for this round of the exchange!
  • You are allowed to post treats after the assignment due date, and even after other gifts have been revealed.
  • Treats do not have to meet the minimum requirements but they must fulfill at least one of the participant’s requests and steer clear of all their DNWs.
  • To find someone to treat, check out the requests summary page and look over the prompts and letters there! When looking for people to treat please remember that this exchange welcomes all characters, ships, and ratings and that any kind of spitefic, spiteful art, shaming, or harassment is strictly against the rules.
  • To post a treat, click the "Post to Collection" button on the collection page. Post the gift as you would normally, making sure you put the username of the person you're treating in the "Gift this work to" box.

Assignments!!

Matching for Equivalent Exchange 2019 went off without a hitch (I expected to have to hand-match or at least tweak, but the algorithm did a fantastic job on its own the first time around) and assignments will be on their way out within the hour!

Some reminders about your assignment:
  • Minimum requirements are a 500-word fic or a clean sketch (on unlined paper if drawing traditionally). 
  • Assignments are due Thursday, September 26 at 11:59 PM UTC. Extensions may be granted in case of emergency.
  • You MUST respect your recipient's DNWs as they are listed in their signup, and you must respect the additional tags they requested (i.e. you may not gift fanart to someone who only requested fanfic; you may not gift fic based on the 2003 anime to someone who only requested Brotherhood/manga). Disregarding DNWs or additional tags is a bannable offense. You are not required to follow your recipient's prompts, but you're strongly encouraged to at least read and take inspiration from them.
  • This exchange uses "OR" matching. This means that for your assignment you are required to create a gift focusing on at least one of your recipient's requested characters/ships, in one of their requested mediums, while respecting their DNWs. You may include more than one of the requested characters/ships in your gift if you would like, but you are only required to include one. (For example, if someone requested Roy Mustang, Amue Armstrong, and Roy Mustang/Amue Armstrong, and you matched on Amue Armstrong, you would only be required to create a gift focusing on Amue Armstrong -- no ship content necessary.)
  • This exchange does NOT automatically do one-to-one/mutual matching, and this year there is only one pair of people who ended up matched to each other. Therefore your recipient is likely not the same person as your secret giver. Please keep this in mind.
  • When you are ready to post your work to AO3, make sure you post it by going to your assignment and clicking the "Fulfill" button -- this will ensure that your assignment is marked as fulfilled, your identity is kept secret, and your work ends up in the Equivalent Exchange collection! (AO3 exchange newbies, feel free to contact the mod if you're confused about how to do this.)
  • Creators will not be revealed until October 10! Please keep your identity secret from your recipient until then. Please do not post your work anywhere outside of AO3, talk about your recipient/your gift publicly, or directly PM your recipient about their gift until after October 10, to protect the surprise. If you have any questions for your recipient, email them to the mod at equivalentexchangemod@gmail.com and I will forward them to your recipient, then send the answer back to you.
  • If you have any questions at all about your assignment, please email the mod at equivalentexchangemod@gmail.com!

 Assignments have been sent out. If you notice any issues with your assignment, please comment below or contact me at equivalentexchangemod@gmail.com.

Here is the countdown to the assignment due date. It has also been linked in the schedule sticky.

Nobody has been double-assigned as a gifter; however, due to the way offers and requests matched up, one recipient has two assigned gifters. I double-assigned the recip to ensure that everyone would be both giving and receiving at least one gift. This should be a treat-heavy exchange so I'm not anticipating that this person will end up with more gifts than everyone else, and you will not know if you're the recipient in question or one of the two people gifting to the same recip, but I'm notifying everyone now in order to avoid confusion when reveals come.

Some reminders as you begin work on your assignments:

Gift minimums are 500 words for fic and a clean sketch for art (on unlined paper if drawing traditionally).

If you have a question for your recipient, contact the mod first at equivalentexchangemod@gmail.com and I will relay your question to the recipient so you can remain anonymous. I am also happy to do this for people who aren't your assigned recipient, but who you are looking to treat. Be checking your emails!

You are welcome and encouraged to create art and fic treats for people besides your recipient in this exchange!

The AO3 account EquivalentExchangeMod is available for those of you who want to treat the collection overall, or whose initial gift strays significantly from your recipient's request to the extent that you don't feel you can gift it to them. (You will still have to complete a gift for your assigned recipient, but you may post the other work in the EE 2018 collection and gift it to EquivalentExchangeMod rather than waiting to post it later outside the collection.)

I will grant extensions up to five days past the official due date. Please contact me sooner rather than later if you anticipate needing an extension.
 
If for whatever reason you feel you can't write or draw what your recipient is requesting, please default ASAP so the mod can find a new gifter for that request and they can have plenty of time to work on it.
 
There are no penalties for defaulting, except the following: If you default, and the gifter assigned to you also defaults, you will not be sent out as a pinch hit.

I will post pinch hits to this community. You do not have to be signed up for this exchange in order to pinch hit.
